Unlocking Potential: Thai Chicken Exports Surge into Philippines, Opening New Trade Horizons
August 6, 2025
Great news for Thai chicken exporters and farmers! The Philippines has approved imports of raw chicken meat from Thailand for the very first time. This marks a significant market opening, no longer limited to just cooked chicken products, and creating huge growth opportunities.
Thailand stands as a major global producer and exporter of chicken meat. Our products consistently meet international standards for hygiene, food safety, and quality. Previously, exports to the Philippines were mainly restricted to processed or cooked chicken. Now, the Philippines’ “green light” for raw chicken drastically expands our competitive edge, granting access to a much larger market segment.
A Breakthrough for Thai Chicken Exports
This achievement comes from the continuous efforts of Thai government agencies. Notably, discussions between Ms. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Thailand’s Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and H.E. Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr., the Philippines’ Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, on February 28, 2025, initiated the review for raw poultry market access. Following these talks, Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development received excellent news from the Philippine Embassy. The National Veterinary Quarantine Service Division-BAI of the Philippines has officially certified two key Thai establishments: EST. 14 Bangkok Ranch and EST. 79 Panus Poultry. These facilities are now authorized to export raw chicken meat.
Significant Economic Gains for Thai Chicken
Initially, these two certified factories expect to export about 5,000 tons of raw poultry (including chicken) annually to the Philippines, valued at up to 500 million baht. This is a promising start for Thai chicken exports. However, the true potential is far greater. If more factories secure certification, Thailand could capture an estimated 25% of the Philippines’ raw poultry import market, potentially worth tens of billions of baht. This market opening will not only boost Thailand’s export revenue but also secure income for Thai chicken farmers. It will actively stimulate the livestock economy and encourage further investment in related industries.
Next Steps for Thai Chicken Exports
Despite the approval, a small final step remains. Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development must submit a sample Health Certificate to the Philippines’ BAI for review. We anticipate this will be completed soon. Once this documentation is finalized, Thai chicken exports can begin immediately.
The Philippines, a rapidly growing economy in ASEAN, welcoming raw chicken from Thailand underscores confidence in the quality and standards of Thai products. This is a crucial step in strengthening trade and economic ties between our two nations. The future for Thai chicken exports to the Philippines is now vibrant with exciting new opportunities.
